Your New Favorite Fujifilm Film Simulation Recipe | “Art School”
PREFACE
I won’t lie. I’m a RAW shooter through and through. But you inspired me and I finally set out to create a Fujifilm film simulation recipe that I’d actually use.
If you’re a Fujifilm photographer using the X100V, X100VI, or any other Fujifilm camera from 2014 and beyond, I’ve created this custom film simulation recipe that I think you’ll love.
WHAT IS THE ART SCHOOL FILM RECIPE
I call it “Art School”, and it’s been designed for those who appreciate a warm, dreamy look reminiscent of classic Portra 800, with just the right amount of punchy color to make your photos stand out along with a balanced contrast of the likes of common film stocks.
Fujifilm cameras are known for their film simulation customizations, but the magic happens when you find something truly unique that’s just for you. “Art School” is my go-to film simulation recipe for everyday photography, both indoors and outdoors. Whether you’re capturing portraits, street photography, or lifestyle shots, this recipe enhances warmth and brings out nostalgic tones while keeping everything sharp and vibrant.
What really sets “Art School” apart is how it plays with color and dynamic range, giving you that timeless film feel while still retaining the flexibility of digital photography. This is all capable by starting with a base of Classic Chrome and then enhancing from there.
GET THE RECIPE
Rather than listing out all the settings here, I’m offering the full “Art School” recipe as a free PDF download. For me I love the ability to save a film recipe somewhere handy on my computer or phone so I can reference it later instead or searching FujixWeekly or bouncing around a Reddit forum. Just hit the link below, and you’ll receive it straight in your inbox. This way, you can start experimenting with this unique film simulation on your Fujifilm camera right away!
NOTEWORTHY
I’ll be honest. I’ll really prefer to shoot this recipe with a custom white balance of around 6000K. But here’s the thing, unless you’re prepared to adjust your white balance manually for each location or environment that can get a little cumbersome. So when I packaged up this recipe I opted for the trusty Auto WB with a decently warm push in the white balance shift settings. This way is can stay versatile, stay warm, and stay fully auto for beginners and advanced users alike.
And with anything, go crazy dude. Tweak it, experiment, do what you will. I’m just a dude with my own dude-ly taste. I almost prefer that you sport your own great taste. So take this and run with it. Make it your own. But if you do use it and love it, tag me on Instagram so I can see it in the wild. Many thanks, y’all.
Lastly, be sure to follow me on social media and don’t forget to shoot me a DM. Always love chatting about cameras + gear.
